CELEBRATING AGRIGENTO: CULTURAL CAPITAL OF ITALY

The beautiful Sicilian city of Agrigento, one of Tampa’s 11 Sister Cities, with affiliated towns being celebrated at this special event along with the exclusive “Journey to the Roots” program, will highlight the city’s historic values and natural beauty. As many Tampa natives and longtime residents trace their roots to the Agrigento province, we are honored to join in the festivities and showcase the rich array of activities that this program has to offer.

FRIENDSHIP CITY AFFILIATION

Approximately 90% of Tampa’s Italian American community traces its ancestry to towns in the Province of Agrigento. A new agreement will be signed to formalize relations between Tampa and our ancestral Sicilian towns. The affiliation aims to enhance tourism, educational exchange, cultural programming, and trade.

TRAVEL BACK IN TIME - AUGMENTED REALITY

Thanks to the USF Institute of Digital Exploration, visitors can immerse themselves in history through 3D-mapped monuments, artifacts, and archaeological sites. Watch ancient objects get 3D-printed and learn from scholars about their work.

JOURNEY TO THE ROOTS

Experience a cultural journey celebrating the longing to reconnect with one’s origins. This program highlights Sicily’s inland beauty, authentic traditions, and the emotional ties that link families across generations. A group will perform traditional Sicilian folklore, bringing the spirit of Southern Italy to life.

TASTE OF ITALY

Enjoy iconic Italian culinary specialties! Renowned Tampa Bay Italian restaurants will offer tastings of antipasti, classic dishes, and wine samplings available through donations to the Sons of Italy Lodge.
